Man arrested after a fatal shooting outside of Indianapolis mall. (Indianapolis) – A man from Indianapolis was detained on Thursday in connection with the January shooting outside an Indianapolis shopping center that left a youngster dead and a man injured.

Two days after an arrest warrant was issued for Clyde Johnson, 19, on charges of voluntary manslaughter and violence in connection with the shooting, homicide investigators apprehended him. Monday is the scheduled day for the charges’ initial court appearance.

Michael Mason Jr., 16, died in the shooting that occurred on January 3 in front of Castleton Square Mall on the city’s far northeast edge.

According to court records, Mason and the injured man were at the mall when they walked to a car that looked like theirs and was parked nearby. As Mason fled the vehicle, the suspect pursued him and shot him from approximately 10 feet (3 meters) away, the guy told Indianapolis police. The suspect then opened fire from the back seat of the vehicle, killing Mason.

The shooting suspect, later identified as Johnson, reportedly claimed police he opened fire to defend himself because he believed he was about to be robbed.
There have been two shootings at the mall so far this year. On February 17, an 18-year-old there unintentionally shot himself.
