Authorities from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office and the Hercules Police Department said in a Kron4 and Fox News report that White III, a Vallejo resident, was allegedly driving a stolen Mazda SUV toward Hercules on westbound I-80 just before 7:30 p.m. local time.
The officials added that a Hercules police followed the vehicle as it turned off of I-80 into Willow Avenue and started to chase it before the car crash happened.
As the officer got up to him, White, III, is said to have accelerated, giving police a brief automobile pursuit north on Willow Avenue before colliding with a Nissan that was attempting to turn onto 4th Avenue from the south on Willow Avenue.
White, III, instantly from the Mazda and started running on foot, but was later discovered at a liquor shop, according to the police.
The Nissan’s driver was a mother of twin boys, age 6, who was 31 years old. The mother was pronounced dead on the scene after the car crash. The Children’s Hospital in Oakland welcomed the boys.
