Bloom has an exclusive term for a reason.
The vast fields of wildflowers that have recently covered California’s valleys and hills have mesmerized locals and tourists who have traveled to observe them in person for the past several weeks.
It turns out that you can observe them properly, and from a very, very long distance away.
The super bloom is so large and noticeable in eastern San Luis Obispo County that it can be seen from space.
On April 6, NASA made available satellite pictures showcasing the super bloom in the Carrizo Plain National Landscape.
A huge portion of the area can be seen in the photos covered with brilliant yellow flowers, and additionally, a surprising purple patch can be seen just north of Soda Lake Road.
“The annual spectacle was seen from space,” the agency reported. “The area is noticeably greener as well as more vibrant than a picture captured in April 2022,” says the report.
