Texas man Erik Tadeo Ramirez was at a house party in Laredo when he boasted about his heist on a phone call to an unknown woman

Witnesses overheard the conversation, and less than two hours later, Ramirez was kidnapped from the location by two or three masked men in a blue Dodge pickup truck.

The car crossed into Mexico about an hour later, and video footage showed a man with a bloodied face trying to exit the passenger door of the vehicle while it was still in motion. He was pulled back inside the car. Ramirez has been missing ever since.

Authorities identified the car’s registration, which belonged to the mother of Jonathan Cavriales. He was later arrested on charges of kidnapping. The car was parked outside Cavriales’s grandmother’s house in Nuevo Laredo, which is over the border in Mexico, on the morning of March 24.

The FBI has confirmed that Ramirez is still missing

Cavriales admitted in a post-arrest interview that he drove the vehicle into Mexico on March 24 with a kidnapped victim along with three other people. He said he was aware that Ramirez had stolen approximately $50,000 from the Cartel Del Noreste.

The Cartel Del Noreste is an offshoot of the Los Zetas cartel and is considered one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Mexico.

The FBI has declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, while the other men involved in the kidnapping remain at large.
