Alabama Governor Kay Ivey gave her state-of-the-state address on Tuesday, expressing her advocacy for a one-time tax rebate to give Alabama families up to $800. The rebate would be funded from a surplus of around $2.8 billion in education.
The governor urged the legislators and others in the Old House Chamber of the Capital to give back the nearly billion dollars to Alabamians. She said taxpaying Alabamians deserved a one-time rebate of $400 or $800 for working families.
Further details for the tax proposal rebate will be expected when the regular session resumes on March 21. Finance Director Bill Poole confirms the rebate would be given to those who filed their state income tax returns, but the payment timing is unclear.
According to MSN, if the bill passes, Alabama would be the latest state to use federal funds to give stimulus payments to its citizens.
