Football Player and Athletic Manager During the Sweet 16 Incident

Two of the four fatal victims in an Alabama Sweet 16 shooting Saturday night have been identified as high school students. They are Philstavious Dowdell, a Jacksonville State football recruit, and Shaunkivia “Keke” Smith who plans to attend the University of Alabama.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed Sunday that four people died and 28 people were injured in the shooting incident. The incident happened on Dowdell’s sister’s 16th birthday.

Dowdell was a player on the school’s football team and he also received a scholarship to play at Jacksonville State University in Alabama this coming fall. Smith was the student athletic manager for the Dadeville High School track team, and was scheduled to attend the University of Alabama in the coming fall.

Dowdell’s grandmother, Annette Allen told the Montgomery Advertiser, “He was a very, very humble child. Never messed with anybody. Always had a smile on his face.”

Dowdell’s mother was also shot but brought to the hospital and is now recovering from her injuries.
