Ana de Armas reflected on her experience moving to the United States at the age of 26 and learning English by watching “Friends.”

She joked that Chandler Bing was her English tutor and exclaimed, “Could I be any better at English?” De Armas also shared some personal stories, including her recent experience playing Marilyn Monroe in the controversial Netflix drama “Blonde,” which earned her a best actress Oscar nomination. She revealed that she is only three weeks away from becoming an American citizen, which was met with cheers from the audience.

The actress recounted her first Hollywood movie, “Hands of Stone,” in which she co-starred with Robert De Niro

She recalled how De Niro told her that he might visit her family in Cuba, and to her surprise, he did. Her father called her hysterically to tell her that De Niro had visited him at work, which she described as a kind gesture.

De Armas also paid tribute to her father during her monologue, saying that he would be proud to see her standing on the “SNL” stage. She shared a funny anecdote about her name being in The New York Times crossword, and how she thought she had made it, but then “SNL” called and asked her to host. She was so shocked and excited that all she could say was, “I beg your pardon?”

De Armas’s next project is “Ghosted,” a rom-com action thriller co-starring Chris Evans, set to release on April 21 on Apple TV+.
