Travelers of American Airlines between 2017 and 2020 can receive payments after a class-action lawsuit.
Some travelers argued they paid inconsistent or overcharged bag fees between 2017 and 2020. The court did not indicate who was right after the dispute, but the airline agreed to a $7.5 million deal in August.

CNET reports the checked-luggage benefits were not correctly programmed into the American Airlines’ airport software. Several customers have also complained about the airlines’ refusal to give a refund.

American Airlines customers can receive $30 to $200 on February 22; the payment is the first portion of the $7.5 million settlement.

The airlines will distribute the payments into two groups:
1. Travelers with an Airline American branded credit card receive free-bag checking privileges, but are charged on a domestic flight.
2. Travelers who paid for their bags, even though they received a confirmation email that their bags would be checked for free.

Eligible customers can receive $30 for the first checked bag, $40 for the second bag, $150 for the third bag, and $200 for the fourth bag. But, the payments can increase as the airlines promised to pay a minimum of $7.5 million.
A follow-up hearing is set on May 5, 2023, to determine how the settlement.
