Denali Brehmer, 22, appeared in court on Wednesday for the killing of Cynthia Hoffman in 2019.

Prosecutors said Brehmer, 18 years old at the time of the incident, killed 19-year-old Hoffman after being incited by “Tyler,” a man she met online. Fox News reported Brehmer and “Tyler” had planned various crimes, including murder and rape.

However, “Tyler” is revealed to be catfishing Brehmer, where he pretends to be a millionaire from Kansas. He offered Brehmer $9 million to record the killing of a person. Investigators identified the person behind “Tyler” as 21-year-old Darin Schilmiller from Indiana.

Brehmer recruited four other suspects: Caleb Leyland, Kayden McIntosh, and two juveniles. Court documents revealed Brehmer lured Hoffman for a hiking trip at Thunderbird Falls trail. However, she was bound by duct tape, shot, and dumped in a river. Brehmer was recording the whole process of killing and sent the photos and videos to Schilmiller.

Brehmer pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for shooting Hoffman. She is set to be sentenced on August 22 and could receive anywhere from 30 to 99 years in prison. Meanwhile, Leyland and McIntosh have pleaded guilty and waiting for trial.
