Florida deputies arrested a man after allegedly assaulting a woman over 20 years ago.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said Charles Craig, Sr., 60, sexually assaulted a woman in the early morning of March 11, 1999.
The victim recalled the event when she was leaving the El Villa’s Lounge in Mary Esther, Florida, on the date with a man who identified himself as “Ron.” She said “Ron” offered her a ride and drove to an area near Sunset Lane in Paquito Bayou. She alleged that Craig had grabbed her by the throat, and threatened her if she did not comply with his demands. She accused Craig of sexual battery.

After the incident, Craig released her at an intersection, where a passerby took her to the Niceville Police Department, where sexual assault kits and other evidence were taken. However, it took the police department almost 20 years to solve the case.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement processed the DNA evidence acquired from 1999 on February 2020. A DNA profile has matched Craig.
Officials said Craig lived under Ronald Grisby’s alias and lived in Destin, Florida, in 1999. The man was found in California in February this year, then signed a waiver of extradition to Florida.
