On Monday, Ma was reported to the National City Police Department by the mother of a previous student who is 13 years old. (Photo: https://nypost.com/)

According to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department documents acquired by NBC 7, Jacqueline Ma, a 34-year-old sixth-grade instructor was charged with three counts of lewd and lecherous actions with a child under 14 as well as three counts of oral copulation with a child under 14 at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City.

The mother of a 13-year-old former student of Ma CA ‘Teacher of The Year’, who was worried that the teacher and her kid “might be having an inappropriate relationship”, allegedly called National City police.

District Superintendent Leighangela Brady told NBC 7 in a statement that she was detained on the school campus on Tuesday around 8 a.m., but not close to any children.

Only one alleged victim, who is no longer a district pupil, is all that the district is aware of, according to Brady.

“We are aware that the news has shocked everyone at our institution just as much as we have. The district will assist law enforcement but is unable to make any additional comments regarding the ongoing probe. The safety, needs, and education of our children will continue to be our top priorities, Brady said in a statement.

Brady stated that the district was trying to locate Ma a replacement.

According to police, CA ‘Teacher of The Year’ was checked into the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Center.

The exact date of the assault is unknown. Due to the victim’s age and the current investigation, police have not provided any additional details. The “CA ‘Teacher of The Year'” honor for 2022–2023 was given to Ma along with four other educators.

As per report of NBC7, Ma stated that her “relationships she keeps with her students are her greatest achievements” in a profile about receiving her award. Many of the Lincoln Acres parents who spoke with NBC 7 agreed that Ma had a strong connection with her pupils, but some also saw some warning signs.

According to Aileen Carillo, CA ‘Teacher of The Year’ young brother was a former student, and she was “over the top” in her interactions with him, she told the news source.

She regularly attended my brother’s sporting events in Baja. Everything, including his birthday party, she heard, according to Carillo. “Honestly, I used to ask my mother, ‘Why does she text my sibling so much?'” She kept in touch with me as well, which I appreciated at first because it seemed like she genuinely cared, but I’ve had many influential instructors who didn’t require such close proximity.

The hearing date for CA ‘Teacher of The Year’ is March 14.
