Authorities say a Chicago security guard at bank was shot Thursday when he tried to stop a possible robber.

The FBI said the thief may have entered the Fifth Third Bank at 1 S. Wacker Drive in the downtown area before 3 p.m.

The bank branch is on the first floor of a well-known office building by Helmut Jahn. The building for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange is right across the street, and the Civic Opera House is just around the corner.

But on Thursday afternoon, there were six different bullet holes in the bank’s rotating door. The other windows of the bank were also broken.

The Chicago Police Department said that the 59-year-old security guard at bank approached the suspect, who then shot the victim with a handgun.

He got a small cut on his right hand, but he didn’t want to go to the hospital, cops said. The security guard at bank was able to shoot at the attacker with his gun.

When a suspected bank robber and a security guard started shooting at each other Thursday afternoon, downtown was a mess.

The man with the gun shot the guard and then ran away. Now, the FBI is looking for him.

It wasn’t clear if gunshots hit the suspect or not. There were no other accidents. The FBI is investigating more into the theft.

The agency said that the suspect is a Black man who is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and is wearing a black hooded jacket, a mask, winter gloves, and blue pants.
