The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal nutrition program that aids people with low income to buy nutritious food. Anyone eligible is entitled to receive the benefits. The USDA oversees the program at the federal level, but it is managed by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) in California.
The California Food Stamps program is also known as CalFresh. Note that this is a nutrition program, not a welfare cash assistance program. Recipients can receive up to $204 a month through EBT cards which they can use to purchase food at convenience stores, grocery stores, and some farmers’ markets and co-op food programs.
The EBT card can also be used to purchase hot meals from restaurants participating in the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP). The RMP allows CalFresh recipients aged 60 and up, disabled, or homeless to use their benefits at approved participating restaurants in specific counties. Recipients should ensure that their California EBT card is also active to use at restaurants and fast-food chains.
iCaliforniaFoodStamps said you could purchase food using the EBT card; you need to find the participating restaurant or fast-food chain that displays the Restaurant Meals sign. You can use your California EBT Card when paying and follow the instruction. Ensure to get the receipt to see the remaining balance on the EBT Card benefits account.
