Experts have advised that thousands of people are in danger of deadly heart attacks and strokes since almost 500,000 people in England, Scotland, and Wales lost the opportunity to start taking blood pressure medications during the pandemic.
The Covid-related disturbance in healthcare, according to researchers, may have prevented thousands of patients from starting to take essential prescriptions that can prevent severe heart attacks and circulation disorders from happening.
Researchers discovered that between March 2020 and the end of July 2021, 491,306 fewer persons than predicted started using blood pressure-lowering medicine, according to data on frequently supplied prescriptions in England, Scotland, and Wales. The journal Nature Medicine reported the findings.
The harsh numbers, in the opinion of researchers at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) data science center at Health Data Research UK, underline the necessity of identifying and treating individuals to prevent them from getting life-threatening illnesses.
Measures to stop the spread of infection were required and unquestionably saved lives, according to the lead author, Prof. Reecha Sofat, associate director at the BHF’s data science center and Breckenridge professor of clinical pharmacology at the University of Liverpool.
“The NHS has already made significant and helpful steps in the direction of detecting high blood pressure in its early stages. To keep heart attacks and strokes from increasing and rising the strain on the healthcare system, we must maintain this focus over the long term.
