Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, had a serious message for the “woke” people this week who had no issue with wealthy citizens leaving the city.
“To constantly target high earnings when half of our taxes are covered by 2% of New Yorkers… At a press conference with Governor Kathy Hochul, Adams stated, “It surprises me when I hear individuals say ‘Leave.’
“No, you must go!” stated Adams. “I need my high earners right here in this city,” the speaker said.
“We are America’s city, and the way New York goes, goes America,” Adams advised.
The city was struggling under the dual pressures of the coronavirus pandemic and increased crime, which was made worse by the state’s bail reform law, which transformed courthouses into automatic doors for repeat criminals. The mayor intended to rejuvenate the city.
The mayor and governor offered a vision for the post-COVID period in the city while speaking to the Association for a Better New York power breakfast at Cipriani’s in the financial district.
Hochul also told the audience that she believes the current period is a “wonderful chance” to ensure that the city’s energy “never falls on life support. I don’t want to look back in 2023 or 2030 and regret not taking action sooner.
