San Francisco’s New Stimulus Program? Here’s What You Should Know

The Executive Director of Lyon-Martin Community Health Services in San Francisco, JM Jaffe said that while healthcare usually focuses on the downstream effects of marginalization, we know that changing the material realities of trans communities can significantly impact their health for the better – indeed, for it is a life-or-death situation for trans people.

Jaffe also added that they hope that their guaranteed income program will be the beginning of a reparative process to change the inequities experienced by our communities, and help them survive in a world that is constantly debating their existence, they want them to be encouraged and empowered to engage in healthcare services in a meaningful and life-changing way.

According to SF.Gov, the President of The Transgender District, Aria Sa’id also said that by giving trans people with low income the resources to cover the expenses they deem most immediate and important given each person’s unique and different situations, they are implementing a truly community-centered and united intervention to fight the problem of poverty.

Transgender District Stimulus Program

The Transgender District Aria Sa’id said she is thrilled to partner with Lyon-Martin Community Health Services and the City on this pilot program. The program GIFT is a historic program that will build economic stability, empowerment, and self-sufficiency for San Francisco’s most impacted trans residents.

The guaranteed income programs of the city are an economic model that provides regular, unconditional cash transfers to individuals or households for help. This differs from social safety and other net practices by providing a stable, predictable stream of cash to recipients for them to spend as they see fit without limitations.

San Francisco’s GIFT program is the third guaranteed income program. It was followed by other help programs like the Abundant Birth Project and the Guaranteed Income Pilot for Artists.
