The sequel to 2009's Avatar is nearly here. There's not just one sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, but three, with Disney announcing release dates for four Avatar movies.

Avatar 2 opens December 16, 2022. It's been 13 years since Avatar, and the sequel was initially scheduled for 2014. Hope it's worth it.

The first Avatar 2 trailer appeared at CinemaCon and was later released with Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Before being online, it was only in theatres.

Jake Sully, a former human soldier and Na'avi, is played by Sam Worthington. He's joined by Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. The couple met in the first film. CCH Pounder is Neytiri's mom, Mo'at.

Jake and Neytiri will have kids. Their firstborn son is Jamie Flatters, their second is Britain Dalton, and their youngest is Trinity Bliss. Javier "Spider" Socorro is adopted by Jake and Neytiri as Jack Champion.

Official synopsis: "Set more than a decade after the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water depicts the narrative of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they take to keep each other safe, and the battles they fight to stay alive. Avatar 2 is the first of four sequels planned, which means the Avatar franchise will span five films in total. The last film is slated for release in 2028 – 19 years after the first Avatar debuted.

Avatar 3 arrives on December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 releases on December 18, 2026, and Avatar 5 lands on December 22, 2028.
