People in Mariposa County whose homes were destroyed by strong winter storms might soon get some help and winter storm relief.
FEMA Sends Winter Storm Relief to Mariposa County
President Joe Biden has put the county on a list of places that have been hit by catastrophic weather disasters. After storms in February did a lot of damage in California, the president added Mariposa to the list of seven counties that will get federal money and winter storm relief.
FEMA will soon be in the area to start taking a look at the damage. We don’t know the specific dates yet. Supervisor Miles Menterey says that the county found out that the storm affected more than 360 people.
There are 72 buildings that were severely damaged, while 13 were completely demolished. Also, 74% of the homes that were damaged did not have insurance. “This county is lucky to have that. As you know, our house burned down last summer, and the rains have made the damage far worse.”

Assistance Include Grants for Temporary Housing
“It rained a lot on Christmas and New Year’s, and now we’re getting this huge amount of snow,” Menterey added.
There will be winter storm relief and help can come in the form of grants for temporary housing and house repairs, low-interest loans to cover property loss that isn’t covered by insurance, and other programs to help people and businesses get back on their feet after severe storms.
This proclamation won’t help include assistance for the damage that winter storms have done to public roads and buildings. The county is waiting for funding to come next.
