U.S. President Joe Biden Met with Ireland’s Top Leaders

U.S. President Joe Biden spends his four days trip in Northern Ireland to explore his ancestry and met with Ireland leaders to talk about their shared values and the opportunities ahead. Biden also praised the leaders for their humanitarian work in accepting and welcoming Ukrainian refugees during the Ukraine-Russia war.

In an interview with Ireland’s prime minister Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Biden said, “I think our values are the same, and I think our concerns are the same. So, I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with you.”

During the Ukraine-Russia war, Ireland welcomed nearly 80,000 Ukrainian refugees and it has been very supportive of the U.S-led efforts in their country. Biden praised the Ireland leaders for their commitment.

“I know it’s not easy (accepting so many people into the country). I just think it feels so good to be able to have this . . . stronger relationship between the United States and Ireland.” Biden added.

Biden is spending his four days in Ireland on his first visit back as U.S President and will meet more Ireland leaders. He will also join a gala dinner on Thursday and will be going to visit County Mayo, before heading back to the U.S.
