A group of Tennessee police officers punched and kicked Tyre Nichols to death on January 7, surveillance video released Friday night showed.

The horrific footage was captured on both a street lamp-mounted camera and a body camera, and it was published in four segments by the Memphis police department.

WCVB said footage indicates that an ambulance did not arrive for more than 20 minutes after the brutal beating of Nichols, despite the fact that his injuries were obviously severe and his physical state was obviously declining.

Tyre Nichols Death: Tennessee Police Officers Punch, Kick Man To Death

Tyre Nichols, 29, died on January 7 following a traffic encounter that resulted in four recordings being made public by Memphis police. Tyre Nichols spent three days in the hospital before passing away from his injuries, according to police.

The original traffic stop was captured on camera, and it depicts a chaotic situation as the cops drag Nichols from the car at 8:24 pm (per Fox News), yell instructions over one another, and even threaten him. The videos appear to show Nichols running after being blasted in the face with what looks to be pepper spray or a similar irritant.

The scenario when cops had caught up to Nichols at another site is seen on pole camera video from above. Nichols may be seen lying on the ground in the footage as the camera pans over. The footage depicts him being kicked and punched.

The three further videos depict the moment Nichols was apprehended by police in a neighborhood, which, according to his mother, was less than 80 yards from her house. Nichols is shown on the ground and getting hit by two cops in one of the recordings. He may be heard shouting “mom” a little while afterward.

Two standing cops may be seen on video punching Nichols in the head while he is on the ground. The video reveals that while Nichols is on the ground, one cop kicks him in the head before striking him with a baton. The videos don’t seem to depict any overt Nichols resistance.

The video appears to show a third cop punching Nichols repeatedly in the face or head as he is standing and being restrained by two other police. Nichols’ knees give out from beneath him and he falls.

In one video, Nichols is shown in handcuffs on the ground with his back against a vehicle while cops congregate and chat after the attack. One states that the chemical irritant also harmed him, while another claim to have damaged his leg. The video captures Nichols slouching down on his side less than two minutes later.

At 8:41 p.m., the first medic was visible on a security video, however, it’s unknown what aid he provided. Five minutes pass at one time without Nichols receiving any physical care. In the footage, he can be seen rolling about on the sidewalk while adjacent cops converse.

An officer stated in a video that after trying to stop Nichols but failing, he “swerved like he was going to strike my car” before stopping at a red light while using his turn signal.

Man Dies 3 Days After Confrontation

Commercial Appeal reported that Nichols passed away on January 10, three days after a traffic stop near his mother’s house and following what Memphis Police described as a “confrontation.”

In addition to being fired, five Memphis police officers were each charged on Thursday with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated abduction, two counts of official misconduct, and one crime of official oppression.
