Tucker Carlson’s Jan. 6 narrative “Denies” court documents, an officer’s testimony, and guilty pleas, as per CBS fact-check

To verify the accuracy of fresh video from the assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Tucker Carlson invited CBS News Congressional Correspondent Scott MacFarlane to visit CBS Mornings on Tuesday.

According to MacFarlane, Carlson “ignored” several facts from the massive court filings, guilty pleas, and the emotional under-court testimonies from police officers and “wrongly” claimed “journalists and congressmen lied regarding the January 6th assault on the Capitol” using the footage.

The narrative from last night dismisses the tens of thousands of court documents we have studied, as well as the volume of video that has already been made available by the Justice Department and displayed in public, said MacFarlane. He continued:

“Additionally, it neglects the compelling and occasionally moving testimony of injured police officers that are testifying under oath. According to Carlson, January 6th was primarily quiet and humble, with a very small percentage of violent incidents.

On his program, which has a Monday night viewership of 3.5 million viewers, he displayed a little amount of edited video and highlighted shots of a few demonstrators making their way into Congress.

However, during the crowd, over 300 people were charged with assaulting police, according to a CBS News investigation. Body-worn cameras also captured attackers utilizing stolen riot shields, spray sticks, baseball bats, and occasionally just their empty hands to beat up cops and destroy the Capitol.”
