Listen up, listen up! Season 5 of the drama series The Crown on Netflix has finished shooting. The one-hour show illustrates the lives of members of the British royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, who is now in power.
In contrast to the first several seasons, which focused on Queen Elizabeth’s reign and union with Prince Charles, Season 5 continues the narrative of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Princess Di made the decision to defend herself and their boys, Prince Harry and William, after realizing that their union was not a true fairy tale.

Season 5 will focus on how the choice altered the family’s course and led to the 1990s tragedy that many royal fans are already aware of. So when can people see Season 5 of The Crown? Here is what we do know.
People published exclusive images of The Crown’s actors shooting Season 5 in September 2021.
While Emma Corrin’s portrayal of the Princess of Wales in Season 4 received an Emmy nomination, Elizabeth Debicki will play Diana in her latter years.
Josh O’Connor was replaced as Prince Charles by Dominic West as well.
“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many,” Elizabeth said about the opportunity. “It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
Princess Diana and Prince Charles are just two of the royal family members whose appearances may change in Season 5. Imelda Staunton will replace Claire Foy and Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II after their separate departures.
In addition, Lesley Manville is taking up the role of Princess Margaret that Helena Bonham Carter portrayed in Seasons 3–4 as Jonathan Pryce replaces Tobias Menzies, who played the part for the previous two seasons.
Release Date
Although Netflix stated on September 25, 2021, that The Crown Season 5 would premiere at some point in November 2022, the streaming service withheld the precise date of the program’s release. Although we are unable to provide an exact release date, The Crown usually premieres a new season in early November. For instance, the series’ debut aired on November 4, 2016. The fourth season of The Crown debuted on November 15, 2020.
Fans of the drama should take solace in the knowledge that Peter Morgan, the drama’s creator, and showrunner, announced in 2020 that he had decided to continue the show for six seasons despite the cast of The Crown being tight-lipped regarding the release date of Season 5.
In fact, Peter had initially stated that he had considered ending the show in Season 5 six months prior to this, saying at the time: “At the outset, I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons, but now that we have begun work on the stories for Season 5, it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop. I’m grateful to Sony and Netflix supporting me with this decision.”
Peter later withdrew his initial claim and explained that he and the show’s writers thought more time was necessary to finish up the royal family’s tale.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” he said. “To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day—it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
