Authorities detained a Texas man for reportedly shooting another driver in an apparent bout of road rage on Thursday. The man had previously served seven years in jail before being exonerated for a deadly stabbing he did not commit.
According to police, Lydell Grant was detained on Friday after being accused of fatally shooting another driver following a minor collision.
ABC 13 reported that Houston police reported that Grant, 46, and a female passenger were exiting a corner shop in a white Lexus car when they failed to stop at a stop sign and were struck by a Toyota.
Before escaping in the Lexus, Grant is said to have exited the vehicle and shot at Edwin Arevalo, a 33-year-old Toyota driver.
KHOU added that Arevalo was shot at least five times.

Texas Man Shooting: Suspect’s Previous Case
After serving seven years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of fatally stabbing Aaron Scheerhoorn, 28, outside a Houston club in 2012, Grant was shot and killed.
Six witnesses testified against the Texas man at his trial, leading to his conviction. However, a Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in May 2021 that Grant was innocent since the victim’s fingernail DNA didn’t match Grant’s.
Before being released on bail in 2019 to await the appeals court’s judgment, the Texas man was serving a life sentence for the offense.
2019 saw the arrest of Jermarico Carter for the murder of Scheerhoorn following the confession of the new suspect.
The Texas man was admitted to the murder and is currently behind bars.
As reported by CBS News, Grant was identified as a suspect in connection with the shooting death on Thursday.
A $1 million bail was imposed for him.
The Texas Innocence Project, which assisted in Grant’s release a few years ago, stated that it was unable to comment on the present situation.
