Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed on Tuesday that his administration begins transporting migrants or asylum-seekers to Philadelphia.
Gov. Greg Abbott Sends Migrants To Philadelphia
The number of illegal migrants staying and crossing the borders is still one of the biggest problems in the country that the Biden administration should address. While the number continues to increase, Texas Gov. Greg. Abbott started sending migrants to cities that consider themselves sanctuaries for migrants.
Recently, Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed that he sent a bus filled with migrants to Philadelphia. It was reported in the news outlet HUFFPOST, that Gov. Greg Abbott usually transports them without proper communication about what they can expect.
In a statement, he said, “Since April, Texas’ busing strategy has successfully provided much-needed relief to our border communities overwhelmed by the historic influx of migrants caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies.”
He also added, “Until the Biden Administration does its job and provides Texans and the American people with sustainable border security, Texas will continue doing more than any other state in the nation’s history to defend against an invasion along the border, including adding more sanctuary cities like Philadelphia as drop-off locations for our busing strategy.”
Philadelphia Mayor Confirms the Arrival of Migrants
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney confirmed that there will be around 30 migrants who will arrive in the city from Texas. He said that “the city will greet our newly arrived neighbors with dignity and respect,” However, he also tweeted “It is disgusting that Gov. Abbott’s administration continues to implement their purposefully cruel policy using immigrant families as political pawns,”
Despite this, the mayor announced that the Philadelphia Welcoming Fund has been established by the city to allow citizens to support local initiatives to welcome immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who are traveling to Philadelphia. The money will be given to regional charities that assist newly arrived immigrant groups.
