Arts educator Veronica Alvarez was recently appointed as the new Director of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) Community Arts Partnership, a program that provides free arts education to youth in Los Angeles County, including students enrolled in Santa Clarita’s local school districts.

Local arts nonprofit Forge Ahead Arts is currently looking for artists to help create a giant garden, which will be displayed at the California Institute of the Arts’ Tournament Valley and used as the set of an immersive show titled “Finding Wonder.”

Kevin Young, an award-winning poet and poetry editor for The New Yorker, has been selected as the California Institute of the Arts 2019 Katie Jacobson Writer-in-Residence. Young is also the director of the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.

Selected from a record-breaking 14,259 submissions from 152 countries, the 2019 Sundance Film Festival lineup will include films and projects from CalArts alumni.
