Steven Fulop Declares to Run for New Jersey Governor
Steven Fulop is on his third term as the Democratic mayor of Jersey City. Fulop was the first candidate to formally announced his candidacy for the 2025 election to succeed Democratic Governor Phil Murphy.
In an interview with Mayor Steven Fulop, he said, “From my time serving as a U.S. Marine to leading Jersey City as mayor, my career has always been guided by a strong desire to take on difficult challenges and find solutions that help improve people’s lives, and now I’m running for governor to bring those same values to Trenton.”
The city mayor revealed the reason for announcing his candidacy this early. He said, “I’m launching my campaign now because I believe that New Jersey can become an even better place for all of us, and I will be sharing my vision over the coming months for how we will make it happen.” Fulop believes that New Jersey deserves better and he is willing to take on the challenge as the next NJ Governor.
Steven Fulop After the Attack on World Trade Center
After the attack on World Trade Center last September 11, Fulop left his job as an analyst for Goldman Sachs and enlisted in the US Marines. Fulop became the mayor of the second-largest city, he implemented paid sick time, pushed through a $15 minimum wage for city workers, and expanded affordable housing for Jersey people.
Under his term as the city mayor, Fulop transformed Jersey City into a haven for financial companies and their employees.
Many people expected Fulop to run for a higher position because he already announced he would not seek reelection as the City Mayor.
