Republicans in California Favor DeSantis to Trump, According to Poll

While the governor plans to talk at a fundraiser for the Orange County Republicans, Ron DeSantis (R-FL) leads former President Donald Trump in either a large field or a head-to-head contest with Republican voters in California.

In a poll done by The Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies the previous month, DeSantis tops the former president by 50%-33% head-to-head and beats Trump by 37%-29% in a crowded field.

The governor of the Sunshine State will visit California the following week for a purchased fundraiser at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley. Since the event is a stop on DeSantis’ book tour, it may also be an opportunity for him to win over Republicans in California ahead of a possible presidential bid.

DeSantis has not declared his intention to run for president, claiming that his priority is to manage Florida. He is scheduled to announce his candidacy, though, in late May or early June, after the state legislative session has ended. In the 2016 GOP primaries, Trump quickly succeeded in California, yet he did so after most front candidates left.
