Rep. David Valadao, R-Calif., and other House Republicans criticized Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom in a statement to him on Thursday for pushing tough on diesel-powered trucks.
Valadao and 7 other Republican state legislators from California informed Newsom in the statement that his newly declared proposal to modernize heavy cars will worsen grid instability, particularly during periods of peak electricity consumption.
To accommodate for increased grid demand, experts claim that switching to electric cars and trucks and large vehicles like trucks and tractors will demand a major boost in electric power output.
The Republican senators wrote in a letter reported first by Fox News Digital, “Although we favor further funding in other power production and other sustainable solutions, the truth is that electric vehicles are still not a suitable option to diesel and gas-powered trucks.
The letter stated, “Consumers were requested to minimize energy consumption to prevent power outages in September 2022, when California’s electric system was under stress. ” The California Independent System Operator stated that the state’s grid reached a fresh most record of 52,061 watts throughout this period.
