President Biden is Overheard Informing Cuban Lawmaker: They Need to Talk “About Cuba”

After the State of the Union address on Tuesday night, Sen. Bob Menendez overheard President Biden informing him that they need to discuss “about Cuba” through a hot mic.

Menendez, a Cuban American congressman from New Jersey, is the head of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which is responsible for bringing out legislation in the chamber.

Biden approached the senator and said, “Bob, I’ve got to talk to you about Cuba.”

C-SPAN cameras captured the conversation between Biden and Menendez as well as Rep. Adam Schiff, who House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had prevented from becoming a member of the House Intelligence Committee.

“Okay,” Menendez is heard answering.

The president’s comments appeared to confuse the congressman.

Biden continued, “I’m serious.”

The son of 2 immigrants from Cuba, Menendez has dedicated a significant portion of his career to addressing immigration and national security concerns in the House of Representatives and later the U.S. Senate.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, which became effective under the administration of former President Barack Obama, is also referred to him as helping to push it forward.

As per his official government website, Menendez is focusing his efforts on “competing with China, addressing the global pandemic, and maintaining the United State’s status as a leader around the world.”
