Recipients of Social Security will only receive one more payment this month. Then, starting in January 2023, you’ll start to see your higher benefit amount on your check after receiving one more payment this month. You’ll receive your increase for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) users in December. Why this occurs and how Social Security payments are scheduled are discussed below.

In December, you’ll receive a letter in the mail telling you of the increase in your Social Security benefits for 2023. If you registered for a My Social Security account before November 15th, you can check your benefits online and get information about your exact benefit rate increase for the coming year.

Continue reading to know how your payment date is decided as well as when you can expect to receive your Social Security check this month. Just started getting Social Security benefits? Here’s how to stop them so you can possibly gain more later. Here are some additional details, including when to start receiving payments and how to apply for Social Security Disability.

When will I receive my Social Security payments?

The second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month are when the Social Security Administration gives payments. Your birthdate decides which Wednesday you receive your money. SSI participants usually receive their payments on the first of every month.

What happens if I receive both SSI and Social Security?

The pay schedule is different if you earned Social Security payments before May 1997 or if you get both Social Security and SSI. You will now get your Social Security payment on the third day of each month and your SSI payment on the first day of each month instead of on a Wednesday.

If the first or third of the month comes on a weekend, those payment dates are changed. As an example, this year’s 1 October came on a Saturday, so SSI recipients got their October payments on 30 September a day early and their Social Security payment on Monday, 3 October. The same rules will apply in December for payments made in January 2023.
