The New York stimulus update announced that six musicians can apply for a monthly $200 payment for a year starting December 2023, offered by the Local Sound Collaborative through the Artist Grants Program.
Qualifications for New York Stimulus Check for Musicians
As per The Gazette’s report, the six recipients will be receiving $200 monthly payments for 12 months starting from December 2023, as part of the Artist Grants Program. The organization will select the recipients and the payments can be spent in any way they please, as the program is based on a universal basic income model.
The eligibility criteria for this program require the applicant to be at least 18 years old, live in the Greater Rochester area of New York, identify as a member, worker, or participant within the local music community, and demonstrate financial need.
Those interested in applying for this program can submit their applications through the Local Sound Collaborative’s website from April 3 to June 3. The program is designed to support musicians with their basic financial needs, and the freedom of choice given to the recipients on how to spend the payments provides additional flexibility.

New York Stimulus Check Update
Last month, the New York State updated its website to give more information regarding the stimulus check eligible recipients may receive. The website said that the state budget provides one-time checks to eligible taxpayers for two separate payments based on the Empire State child credit and the earned income credit.
If taxpayers are eligible for either or both credits, they will automatically receive a check with the total amount they are entitled to without needing to do anything. The amount of the check will be based on the taxpayer’s 2021 Empire State child credit, New York State earned income credit or both.
The estimated amount can be determined using information from the taxpayer’s 2021 New York State income tax return, but the actual amount may differ due to adjustments to the credit amount.
