The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is a Federal program that helps low-income people buy nutritious food. The program is previously known as the Food Stamp.

The SNAP checks are sent through Electronic Benefit Transfer or EBT cards. The cards can be used like debit cards when buying food and other items in eligible stores and restaurants.

The SNAP benefit greatly helps individuals or families struggling to afford healthy food, particularly with the rising living costs.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for SNAP?

You can apply for SNAP benefits in the state you are currently living. Each state has its required income limits to qualify. Generally, the income limit varies depending on the size of the household.

Households with a higher number of members have a higher threshold and their SNAP benefits. You also have to meet the gross and net income limits, up to 130% of the poverty line in America. Households with a member above 60 or disabled can claim up to $4,250 of SNAP benefits.

Meanwhile, you don’t have to worry if you have a retirement or pension plan, as it is not counted in their requirements. Students aged 18 to 49 who are not studying full-time are not qualified for the SNAP benefits unless they meet the special requirements.
