Music producer accuses Chris Brown of assault in London club
Chris Brown is facing an allegation of assault following an incident at a London nightclub in February.
The American R&B singer and songwriter, who is no stranger to controversy, was at The Tape club in Mayfair during a UK concert tour when the alleged attack took place. The complainant, a music producer who has asked not to be named, claims he was punched and kicked as he lay on the ground.
He says it was Brown who launched the assault, hitting him over the head two or three times and causing his knee to collapse.
The alleged victim had to be taken to the hospital and required crutches to walk when he was discharged. He has spoken to the police, who are investigating the matter, and it is now in the hands of his solicitor. Brown had offered to voluntarily attend a London police station for questioning, but sources say he did not meet with officers and has now returned to the US. The Metropolitan Police have not commented on the identities of anyone they wish to speak to.
Brown has a history of violence.
In 2009, he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna, causing facial injuries. In 2013, he was arrested for breaking a man’s nose in Washington DC after refusing a picture with him. He voluntarily went into rehab but was kicked out, and was subsequently jailed for a year for breaching probation.
The latest allegation against Brown is likely to be of concern to his fans, who continue to support him despite his past behavior. Some have called for him to be held accountable for his actions, while others have defended him as a victim of the media’s obsession with celebrity scandal.
Whatever the outcome of the police investigation, it seems clear that Chris Brown’s reputation as a talented musician is inextricably linked to his troubled personal life.
