Melissa Schuman Suing Backstreet Boys Singer Nick Carter Again For Alleged 2003 Sexual Assault – The 43-year-old is being sued by Melissa Schuman, a former member of the musical group Dream, for allegedly sexually assaulting her in 2003 when she was 18 years old. According to the lawsuit, Melissa Schuman, 38, claims that Nick Carter, 43, exploited his position as a well-known musician and his authority to groom, manipulate, and sexually attack Melissa Schuman. Melissa Schuman claims in the court docs that the alleged assault took place in Carter’s Santa Monica apartment.

She claims Carter pushed himself on top of her despite her repeated assurances to him that she was a virgin, was saving herself for her future husband, and didn’t want to engage in sexual activity.

In 2017, Melissa Schuman wrote a blog post outlining her allegations

Carter allegedly performed oral sex on Schuman and forced her to engage in sexual activity before raping her. According to Schuman, Carter was persistent and wouldn’t take no for an answer. According to Schuman’s tweet, the incident took place soon after Carter and Schuman were cast in 2004’s The Hollow, a TV movie. Carter was 22 at the time. Shortly after the incident, Schuman said, she had planned to come forward, but her then-manager, Nils Larsen, persuaded her it wasn’t a good idea.

In response to the publication of Schuman’s blog entry in 2017, Carter also refuted the claims. The singer expressed her astonishment and sadness over Ms. Schuman’s allegations. Melissa never hinted to me during our relationship or afterward that anything we did wasn’t mutually agreed upon. I continued to respect and encourage Melissa both personally and professionally as we collaborated to record a song and perform. Nearly 20 years later, this is the first I’ve heard of these allegations.

He continued, It is against my nature and everything I hold dear to purposely put someone through pain or harm.

Singer Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in 2001

A Nevada judge said Carter could countersue Schuman, her father Jerome Schuman, as well as another Carter accuser, Shannon “Shay” Ruth, a few weeks prior to the filing of the complaint. Ruth filed a lawsuit against Carter in Nevada last December, alleging that he had raped her in 2001 when she was 17 on a Backstreet Boys tour bus. In Ruth’s lawsuit, Carter is also accused of sexually assaulting three additional Jane Does who are included in Carter’s countersuit.

Carter made a claim in February. Carter contends in his countersuit that the allegations made in the lawsuits brought against him are a part of a scheme to smear and blackmail him. Schuman has made previous attempts to press charges.

Given that the statute of limitations had already passed in 2013, Los Angeles’ prosecutors decided not to pursue charges in 2018.
