How Did the Killing Start?
Following the passing of his children’s mother, August had already lost a custody battle to his son. In response to the loss and the knowledge that he would have to pay for child maintenance, he reportedly started saying goodbye to the people he cared about in advance of the incident.
It was found during the investigation, the day before the incident, August allegedly confessed to his then-girlfriend and told his son that he would be moving away and did not know whether he would run across him again.
August was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment for the injuries he sustained after he crashed the backhoe into the house. He was able to manage to escape and stole a vehicle from the hospital. But, his escape was cut short when his stolen vehicle crashed into a backhoe.
