The 911 dispatch audio was released by the city clerk of Monterey Park, California, on Thursday.
The Lunar New Year shooting in Monterey Park has taken the lives of 11 people. The recorded audio revealed callers to be distressed, and with the speed of the gunfire and the crowd’s size, some callers could not give the shooter’s general appearance. The 911 dispatchers’ were struggling to collect even the basic information, including the appearance or skin color of the shooter.
One caller said, “Send the police right away; he might start shooting again. I’m outside the building. I don’t know if anyone’s hurt or not.”
Another caller gave a first-person account as he and his girlfriend tried to escape. He told the dispatcher, “We start the car and try to leave, and suddenly somebody come next to the window and shoot the window.”
The suspected Monterey Park mass shooter was also identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran. The emergency calls have not revealed any clues about Tran’s motive or possible connections with the victims. Investigators said the motives for the massacre are still unclear.

Fox News reported that a long-time friend of Tran said the 72-year-old had offered free lessons at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in search of a new dance partner after divorcing his wife but complained that the people there did not like him.
The victims of the Lunar New Year shooting incident were identified: Chia Yau, 76; Yu Kao, 72; Ming Wei Ma, 72; Diana Tom, 72; Valentino Alvero, 68; Muoi Ung, 67; My Nhan, 65; Wen Yu, 64; Lilian Li, 63; Hong Jian, 62; and Xiujuan Yu, 57.
