Local News in Memphis: Mother of Tyre Nichols Demands Justice After Son’s Tragic Death by Black Police

The mother of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man who died after a brutal beating by five Black police officers during a traffic stop in Memphis, spoke out in an interview with MSNBC on January 28, 2023. RowVaughn Wells expressed that the officers shamed their families and brought disgrace to themselves.

She also expressed heartbreak over the fact that five black men were responsible for the death of another black man close in age. Despite her anger and sadness, Wells showed compassion and prayed for the officers’ families. Tyre was remembered as a joyful, loving man who was passionate about photography and skateboarding and who had a close relationship with his mother.

She believes her son was on a divine mission and has returned home. She will fight for justice for his death. Five former police officers were charged with second-degree murder and other crimes and were arraigned on February 17th.

Wells stated that she will not rest until every person responsible for Tyre’s death is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. She added that this tragedy will not be forgotten and that she will continue to fight for justice for her son. Tyre Nichols was on his way home from taking pictures of the sky when he was stopped and beaten by the police, just a few minutes away from his home, as reported by Fox News on January 29, 2023.
