IRS: Refund Status Updates Every Midnight

The IRS officially kicked off the 2023 tax season on January 23, although some taxpayers began filing their 2022 returns before that date.

However, the IRS announced they would not process any returns before the above date. The IRS said through its website that most refunds would be issued in less than 21 days for taxpayers who chose direct deposit and filed electronically.

According to Marca, said some returns might take longer to process due to errors or need more reviews. But they assured the taxpayers the agency would try its best to refund taxpayers as soon as possible.

Scheduled Time for Refund Status Updates

The IRS said taxpayers could access the “Where’s My Refund?” tool to check the status of their return. Taxpayers who file electronically can check their status after 24 hours of filing, while those who file through paper returns will have to wait for four weeks before checking the status.

You do not need to check the website multiple times a day since the “Where’s My Refund?” tool updates the refund status once daily – between 12:00 a.m. and 06:00 a.m.
