In Florida, GOP gives DeSantis Victories on Disney and Migrants before his Anticipated ’24 Bid

Before a possible 2024 presidential run, Republicans in Florida handed Governor Ron DeSantis all he asked for.

The Republican-controlled House and Senate passed 7 bills throughout a five-day special legislative session that ended on Friday. These included high initiatives which might expand his destructive migrant transport program, offer Florida further control over Disney World, and enhance judicial authority over voting offenses. Each of the initiatives improves on previously passed bills that had legal barriers or unsolved difficulties.

Together, the bills provide DeSantis with a record of achievements that he may highlight to conservative voters throughout the nation if he decides to run for president in 2024.

In protest to a special session bill that might expand a DeSantis-supported migrant flight program, Rep. Anna Eskamani (D-Orlando) stated on the floor of the House on Friday, “The truth is we have a governor establishing a presidential bid, and that is mainly his effort to get achieved media time on Fox News.”

DeSantis pushed for the special session to be called, but Republican legislative leaders brushed down claims that they were forced into it by the governor. But before the Legislature passed the laws, they were unable to respond to simple inquiries regarding the bills.
