Californian health authorities have urged healthcare professionals to increase sanitation attempts to stop the growth of the extremely dangerous norovirus, which is also known as the stomach flu.
The California Department of Public Health has issued a warning stating it has detected at least 25 norovirus infections since February 1 that have likely resulted in hundreds of infections across the state.
These include multiple infections at long-term treatment centers and one serious enough to demand the temporary closure of an elementary school in Los Angeles County.
According to a March 28 warning from state health officials, “Gastrointestinal infections are frequently not proven by laboratory testing, therefore the actual amount of norovirus infections considerably exceeds those verified by laboratory testing.”
Although norovirus sickness is occasionally described as the stomach flu or the flu, it is different from the respiratory virus known as the flu or influenza.
