After news that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas received expensive flights and presents from a big Republican supporter for over twenty years without declaring them, House Democrats demanded his resignation on Wednesday.
At a press conference on Wednesday, legislators, including Illinois Rep. Jess “Chuy” Garcia and Georgia Rep. Hank Johnson, a senior leader of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, called for Thomas to resign from the Supreme Court.
Due to his ethical actions and issues of interest, Garcia said in an address to USA TODAY, “Clarence Thomas needs to step down.”
“Our Supreme Court needs a legally-binding ethics code, and it’s high time to hold those who are wealthy and accessible to the same rules as everybody others.”
