WGME said officers from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the residence located at 205 Tripp Lake Road at about 7:18 a.m. on Tuesday after someone requested for a welfare check.

Chief Medical Examiner’s office identified the victims, namely: Lewiston, Maine, resident Mohamed Aden, 16, and Springfield, Massachusetts resident Shoeb Mohamed Adan, 21, inside the house. Two victims are unrelated.

NBC News said police considered the deaths suspicious before they concluded that it was a homicide in Maine house.

Detectives have not yet made an arrest, state police officials told Fox News, although they are conducting interviews and pursuing leads in the investigation into their homicide in Maine home.

Investigators urged the public to call (207) 753-2599 with any information they may have regarding the case.

Number of Homicide Cases in the State

For the first time in over 15 years, there were more than 30 homicides in Maine last year.

The 32 homicide fatalities in the state greatly exceeded the 19 homicide deaths in 2021. According to the Maine attorney general’s office (via Bangor Daily News), which prosecutes murder charges, the 2022 total fell short of a record established in 1989, when there were 40 killings.

The last time the state had more than 30 killings was in 2008 when 31 individuals died.

Every year, 20 to 25 homicides in Maine are reported. Marchese refrained from speculating on the causes of the twelve extra homicides in 2022 compared to 2021.

In the previous year, there were three victims under the age of 4, one less than in 2021, when the deaths prompted further criticism of the state’s childcare system.

Police are still looking into four of the 32 killings from last year, and for a variety of reasons, no charges have been brought against four others. In 24 cases, defendants have been charged and are awaiting trial.
