Get $500 in One Week via UBI Payments

The ARISE program selected 170 Virginia residents out of the 4,159 people that submitted their applications. The city could not provide a particular date but confirmed that funds will be given in February 2023. The first set of $500 checks will be sent to Alexandria residents under a new universal basic income program.

The funds will be disbursed via MoCaFi, which will also issue debit-like cards in collaboration with the City of Alexandria. Just keep in mind that participants will not need a bank account to get their money. Participants will be notified regarding the exact timing of the first payment, which will be announced soon.

The initiative, also known as the Alexandria Recurring Income for Success and Equity Study, is a pilot study that provides financial assistance to the city’s most vulnerable residents. There are no limits, so beneficiaries can spend the money however they like.

The money is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which was approved by Congress and signed into law in March 2021. Participants were chosen at random, and notification was anticipated in December (Personal Finance News, 2023).

The ARISE website states that you must be a citizen of Alexandria who is at least 18 years old to be eligible. Your household income must be equal to or lower than 50% of the area median income (AMI). Visit the ARISE website to see the full list of income restrictions. They will receive a one-time payment of $1,500 in only one month.
