The IRS warned that many Americans would receive lesser tax refunds this year due to the loss of a few significant tax advantages from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, several taxpayers in Georgia are still determining what happened to their tax refund. 

Many individuals rely on their returns to cover expenses, reduce debt, or pay for luxuries like holidays. And at a time when rising costs are already making it more difficult to pay the bills, checks are getting smaller.

Georgia Tax Return: What Happened to Refund?

If your tax return is error-free and electronically filed, you may anticipate receiving your 2022 Georgia income tax refund within 21 days. However, if you submitted your return by mail, selected a mailed paper check, or your return requires additional processing, the anticipated wait time may be up to 12 weeks or a little longer.

If the refund status has stayed the same after six weeks or if you get instructions to contact the Department, GoBankingRates said you could contact the Georgia Department of Revenue. 

The refund date indicated on the status does not consider the time required for banks to make direct deposits or for the Department of Revenue to mail paper checks.
