A Georgia man has been taken into custody for the alleged murder of an 11-year-old girl who was sleeping in her bedroom
Additionally, Parks has been charged with four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and 14 counts of violating the Georgia Criminal Street Gang Act.
Asijah Love Jones, who was sleeping in her bedroom with her sister, was hit by a stray bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on March 14. Parks is suspected of firing the shot recklessly during a gang-related feud with another individual who was firing a rifle. Parks were shooting from a distance of approximately 100 yards away, and it is believed that he was not targeting Asijah.
According to Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix, Parks has a history of violence, and Dix referred to him as a “monster.” Parks had outstanding warrants for his alleged involvement in another shooting.
Dix added that Parks has no regard for human life and is willing to pull the trigger without a second thought
After conducting an investigation for several weeks, law enforcement officers spotted Parks in a vehicle on the street and apprehended him. Natasha Beckham, who was driving the car that Parks was found in, was charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a fugitive.
This tragedy has devastated the community, and Asijah’s family and friends are mourning her loss. Sheriff Dix stated that the community must come together to address the issue of gang violence and keep innocent individuals safe from harm. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
