Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger has asked the Justice Department to bring charges against former President Donald Trump, stating, “I don’t know what is if his conduct in the January 6 Capitol riot is not considered criminal.”
One of two Republicans who served on the House Select Committee to look into the Capitol riot was Kinzinger, who stated in late 2021 that he would not run for re-election in his Illinois district in the 2022 midterm elections. Kinzinger highlighted extremism and tribalism within the US political system.

The committee issued a shocking recommendation to charge the former president after it completed its investigation in December.
Kinzinger mentioned in a farewell interview with CNN that he thought the Department of Justice would implement the committee’s suggestions to charge Trump on 4 different counts, including conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to make inaccurate statements, obstruction of justice, and inciting a riot.
Kinzinger has long supported indicting Trump, claiming that the committee had “proved” that he had taken inappropriate steps to maintain power in July of last year.
Kinzinger admitted to CNN’s Dana Bash that when he first met with the committee, he lacked the legal knowledge required to figure out whether Trump had broken any laws.
