A Chicago attorney well-known for his support of fathers in custody issues is under fire for allegedly charging clients thousands of dollars in fees that didn’t correspond to the quality of the job his company completed.
Attorney Jeffery M. Leving is charged with violating the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct by charging customers huge fees and attempting to pay back clients for unearned fees, according to a complaint made in January by the state’s Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission and published digitally this last week.

As “The Leading Chicago Family Law Firm,” Leving’s practice specializes in defending men in divorce and child custody disputes.
Leving has not yet submitted an official response to the allegation, but his company released a statement on Wednesday stating that he took the accusations seriously and denies breaking the rules of conduct.
Over the years, Mr. Leving’s business has represented tens of thousands of customers and helped countless children find their dads. He is proud of these achievements; a company representative wrote in an email.
The complaint names 8 clients who claim Leving’s organization charged them thousands of dollars for legal assistance even though the firm did far less on their behalf to deserve the fees.
