Police in California, US are investigating an incident in which a person tried to steal a car from a DoorDash delivery agent. The worker had left her child inside the vehicle while she was completing her customer’s delivery.

A resident’s home surveillance camera captured the moment the DoorDash driver gets out of her SUV to make the delivery while leaving the engine running. The video, which was uploaded to YouTube by Fox News affiliate KTVU in San Francisco, shows another SUV approaching the DoorDash driver’s vehicle.

A person is seen jumping into the vehicle; fortunately, DoorDash staff chases the suspect down and screams that her daughter is inside the vehicle, according to KTVU.

The suspect exits the vehicle, allowing it to roll across the street onto the sidewalk. The child was not injured, according to the police.

According to the Oakland Police Department, “when officers arrived, they learned that when a victim stepped away from their vehicle momentarily, an unknown individual entered the vehicle and proceeded to drive away, stopping and exiting the vehicle moments later.”

“This attempted carjacking was a horrifying situation for the driver, and we are incredibly relieved that both she and her child are unharmed,” DoorDash said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” added Oakland police. “Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (510) 238-3326.”
