Influencer Andrew Tate held in Romania on rape and human trafficking
Following a probe into rape and human trafficking, controversial online influencer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania. While influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were being held captive, their home in Bucharest, the capital of the country, was raided.
After being kicked off the British television show Big Brother in 2016 after a video that allegedly showed him beating a woman, the former kickboxer rose to fame. Due to the claim that “misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated,” Mr. Tate has been banned from TikTok as well as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
He had been banned from Twitter, but since Elon Musk took over, he has been allowed to login again.

Andrew Tate’s appeal against detention
Influencer Andrew Tate’s appeal against his extended detention was denied by a Romanian court, and they ordered him to remain in custody until March 29. They are being held in pre-charge detention on charges of creating an organized crime group, rape, and human trafficking. Each has refuted any misconduct. At first, they were kept in custody until February 27 before it was extended another 30 days.
On Monday, the court upheld that judgment. While the brothers’ phone chats while in detention were being recorded, one of the Tates’ attorneys, Eugen Vidineac, told the BBC that nothing they had discussed was unlawful. His remarks that women should “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted led to his subsequent rise to online prominence and his removal from Twitter. He was given another chance later.
