Democratic attempts to replace Feinstein on the Judiciary panel are blocked by the GOP

Democrats wanted to substitute for Sen. Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee to move nominations for judges that had stopped forward, but Republicans on Tuesday publicly opposed their proposal.

As California Democrat Feinstein recovers from shingles, Senate Democrats are looking to subsequently replace her on the influential committee that evaluates judicial appointments.

The 89-year-old California Democrat is under increasing demand to leave or immediately rejoin the committee after Senate Republicans announced it clear they were willing to oppose Democratic attempts to bring in Feinstein.

Feinstein requested this past week to be “temporarily” substituted on the committee while she recovers, although the exact date of her comeback is still unknown.

On Tuesday, Schumer spoke about his connection with Feinstein and her successes as he offered his motion.

“In respecting Dianne’s wishes today, I’m behaving not only as the leader but also as a friend of hers,” as stated by Schumer.
